- 1 cup water
- 1 cup cane sugar (granulated sugar or a sugar substitute)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or tablespoon if you want a lot of vanilla
- A pinch of salt

- In a saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder and water over medium heat until the cocoa is dissolved.
- Add the sugar (or sugar substitute) and continue to whisk until the mixture starts to simmer on a medium saucepan
- Let it simmer for a few minutes, stirring constantly, until it thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
- Let it cool and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
