Picture a leisurely Sunday morning when the smell of freshly made Banana Bread wafts through the house with a deep, rich chocolate scent.
The bread’s moistness comes from the bananas, an essential component of our family’s triple chocolate banana bread recipe.
But the variety of chocolates elevates it to dessert status – with a buoyant lift in flavor and mouthfeel.

This triple chocolate banana bread makes a wonderful companion to a nightcap—or even a delectable breakfast if stolen nibbles are present the following morning.
This bread is an experience. I mean, banana bread is the best all the time, so combining it with chocolate cake, you can never go wrong there.
This is one of our most popular recipes, and it is a quick bread recipe, too, one that I am sure you will absolutely love 🙂

Triple Chocolate Banana Bread Ingredients:
- 3 mashed, overripe bananas: The bananas have a natural sugar that makes for a sweet, moist bread and tender crumb. If you didn’t buy ripe bananas, I suggest you wait to make this recipe and for your bananas to ripen, but you don’t have to!
- 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter: It is necessary to keep the bread moist and delicious.
- ¾ cup brown sugar: The addition of a bit of molasses provides a richer sweetness and a nice echo of the richness of all of the other ingredients.
- 1 large egg, beaten: the egg will help bind the ingredients together and improve the bread’s structure, giving it a perfect crumb. A needed ingredient in nearly every one of my baked goods.
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract: A warm, aromatic complement that adds another rich chord to amplify the chocolate and bananas.
- 1 cup all-purpose flour: Furnishes the necessary scaffolding, allowing the bread to achieve a light and open crumb.
- ½ cup cocoa powder: Cocoa powder is the second layer of chocolate here: the bread itself has a deep and rich chocolate flavor.
- 1 tsp baking soda: Raises the bread, resulting in a light, fluffy crumb.
- 1/4 teaspoon salt: This brings out the flavor of the whole bread.
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips: Chocolate chips provide little clumps of melty dark chocolate scattered through the bread that make the triple chocolate a reality.
- 1/2 cup milk chocolate chunks: Milk chocolate chunks soften the edges of the crisps and further temper the creamy dark chocolate with a lighter, sweeter contrast.
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips: Adding a sweet, creamy component that nicely sets off the other two chocolates! Plus it makes it extra chocolatey!
- Optional: Add ¼ cup of milk. You can use regular milk if you are okay with dairy products, but you can substitute it for almond milk as it works for the recipe.

- Try making them in a muffin or bundt tin
- Freeze a loaf in the freezer for up to six months. When you pull it out, allow it to thaw overnight and then microwave if frozen. I’ve never had an issue with freezing my bread in this way.
- Add an easy-to-make glaze. I have never tried making one personally, but if you find a good one, link it in the comments below.
- Chop up walnuts to add as an extra topping that will be crunchy and yummy. You can also add some to your dry ingredients.
