Mozzarella Onion Rings Ingredients
- 2 large white onions: No onion rings recipe is complete without onions of course.
- 8-10 mozzarella cheese sticks: You’ll stuff each onion ring with a piece of a cheese stick. This is the only form of cheese that will work.
- 1 cup all-purpose flour: Each onion ring will be coated in flour for optimal crisp.
- 2 large eggs, beaten: An egg wash will allow the flour to stick to the onion ring.
- 2 cups breadcrumbs: The coat of bread crumbs is what gives these onion rings that perfect crunch.
- 1 tsp garlic powder: Prepare your seasonings with garlic powder for an even more flavorful bite, perfect with marinara sauce.
- 1 tsp paprika: Paprika will fit with your other spices beautifully to add a little kick to your side dish.
- Salt and pepper, to taste: One of the last steps is to sprinkle some salt and pepper. These ingredients will enhance the overall flavor of the dish.
- Chopped parsley for garnish: Place parsley on top for a bit of added color.
- Oil for frying: Fried food is my favorite. Oil is essential for any fried dish. You’ll need a thick layer to cover the bottom of your saucepan.

How to Make Mozzarella Onion Rings
- Peel and then cut them into pieces roughly 1/2-inch wide. Separate the rings.
- Slice a piece of mozzarella cheese stick and put it inside an onion ring. Put a second onion ring over the cheese so you have a cheese-filled onion ring. Repeat this process with remaining onion rings and cheese.
- Put the flour, the beaten eggs, and the breadcrumbs in three different bowls. Season the flour with garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper.
- Dip it first into the flour, then into the egg and finally into the breadcrumbs.
- Repeat with the remaining onion rings and freeze extras.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or a large saucepan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown and crispy, 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving.

Tips and Tricks
These stuffed onion rings are a family favorite for game days and midday snacks.
They won’t even last for 1 hour on your appetizer table, but if you do have leftovers, they’ll last for up to 4 days.
After a few days, it’s best to throw them in the freezer. When you freeze these onion rings, you’re ensuring that they are able to be thawed out at any time for any occasion.
It helps to separate the smaller onion rings from the larger ones when preparing. That way you can easily reach for a small ring to go inside your initial one.
By doing this, you’re less likely to have an unfortunate gap between the rings.
Be sure your strips of mozzarella are quite thick, so you’re able to taste the mozzarella and it doesn’t get overshadowed by the two onion rings.
One substitution to consider is using corn oil to fry your onion rings. Corn oil makes it easy to fry your food without burning it.
While they’re great with marinara, I personally love my onion rings with ranch.
This mozzarella stick onion rings recipe is incredible easy and doesn’t take long at all.
